BACKGROUND AND CREDENTIALS

Douglas Martinez, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist in New York and New Jersey. He has been in exclusive private practice since 2005, having previously worked as a social worker from 1974 to 1983, and as a psychologist and program director/ developer since 1983. Since 1983, he has designed and/or directed five progrms in two states that have been hospital or agency based. He has additionally been in private practice since 1996.

As a clinical psychologist, he has specialized in the assessment and treatment of both adolescent or adult victims of child abuse, as well as abusers. He has also specialized in treatment of trauma, with certification in several methods of treatment.

Dr. Martinez is national member, and a New Jersey board member of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. He is also a research and clinical member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers. He has several publications and over 50 regional, national and international professional addresses.

EXPERTISE
Dr. Martinez’ professional interest and areas of expertise are as follows:

Compulsive sexual behaviors and paraphilias: Specializing in group and individual treatment using cognitive-behavioral and rational emotive behavior therapy techniques. This includes compulsive use of the internet and other sexually compulsive behaviors. Since 1985, Dr. Martinez has had ongoing experience in the assessment, treatment, and risk assessment of sexual offenders.

Court – Related services: Dr. Martinez has performed numerous specialized psychological / psychosexual evaluations for judges in family and criminal courts as well as prosecutors and defense attorneys. He has testified since 1975.
Assessment and Treatment of Traumatic disorders: This includes treatment of disorders in adolescents and adults with histories of childhood abuse, and/or recent traumatic events.
Phallometric Assessment: Biological assessment of sexual response. Experience since 1987. Also, constructed a phallometric lab for Hahnemann Medical School.
Certifications:

New Jersey Certified in Advanced Studies in Child Maltreatment with a Specialization in Child Sexual Abuse. Certifying authority: The New Jersey Child Abuse Training Institute, a funded initiative of the New Jersey Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect.
